Gourd

Before we eat the Gourd we say…

יְהִי רָצוֹן מִלְּפָנֶיךָ, ה’ אֶלֹקֵינוּ וֵאלֹקֵי אַבוֹתֵינוּ, שֶׁיִקָּרַע גְזַר דִּינֵנוּ וְיִקָּרְאוּ לְפָנֶיךָ זְכֻיוֹתֵינוּ

Which means….

May it be your will, Hashem our G-d and G-d of our forefathers, that the decrees of judgement be torn up and only our merits be before you.

The word for Gourd or winter squash in hebrew is קָרָא similar to the word יִקָּרְאוּ to tear up. Meaning we want any bad decrees to be torn up and thrown out and only should hashem keep our merits and good deeds before him.
